Job summary

Carondelet High School is seeking a dedicated Assistant Varsity Swim Coach to support the swim program, assist with practices, motivate student‑athletes, and teach game strategies. The role upholds school, league, and governing body rules while promoting integrity and inspiration among athletes and staff.

The position is a volunteer, part‑time stipend role, with emphasis on safety, sportsmanship, and leadership development for both varsity and sub‑varsity teams.

Qualifications

• High school/club/college coaching experience preferred.
• Effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Knowledge of rules, strategies, and techniques of swimming.
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with administrators, parents, and students.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• CPR, First Aid/AED, NFHS Coaching and other certifications required prior to coaching.
• Volunteer, part‑time, stipend role with afternoon/evening availability.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting with organizing the Carondelet High School Swim program. The position prioritizes integrity, innovation, and inspiration while assisting with practices, motivating students, and instructing student‑athletes in game strategies and techniques. The Assistant Varsity Swim Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations of Carondelet High School, the East Bay Athletic League, and the North Coast Section. The Assistant Varsity Swim Coach models humble leadership, embraces possibility and innovation, delivers great, and inspires joy and gratitude in athletes and colleagues.

Essential Responsibilities

• Fosters a community spirit consistent with the Carondelet Mission and Core Values among coaches, student‑athletes, and parents.
• Assures respect for the uniqueness of the individual athlete and develops the whole person by demanding good sportsmanship, promoting positive coaching practices, communicating effectively with all constituents, and establishing and fostering good relationships with student‑athletes, parents, faculty members, administrators, and coaches.

• Assist with the entire program, including varsity and sub‑varsity teams, as needed, and promote leadership and character development among all student‑athletes.

• Instruct and demonstrate the skills and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
• Assist with developing game strategy and team practices for the Varsity team.
• Ensure proper maintenance of all athletics equipment, uniforms, and facilities is adhered to.
• Assist in the implementation of disciplinary policies and emphasize sportsmanship.
• Maintain a safe environment, including facilities, for student‑athletes at all times.
• Ensure that medical and safety procedures are followed in the event of an athlete’s injury.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Carondelet Head Varsity Swim Coach or Director of Athletics.

Administrative Duties

• Adhere to all school financial policies regarding the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
• Maintain and post necessary records and complete required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
• Ensure that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followed.
• Participate in special activities, including parent’s night, banquets, award nights, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school or club and/or college‑level coaching experience is preferred.
• Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Must have knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• CPR, First Aid/AED, NFHS Coaching, and other certifications will be required prior to coaching.
• This is a volunteer, part‑time, stipend role, with the expectation of afternoon and evening availability for practices and games.

Terms of Volunteer Participation

Seasonal stipend as per agreement.
