Job summary

YMCA of Central Ohio is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to lead safe, engaging aquatic classes and support healthy living within the community. Starting compensation is $14.00 per hour, with opportunities to advance as you gain certification and leadership experience.

Flexible hours include 10-25 hours weekly and a free YMCA membership. No prior experience is required; training for YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) certification and instructor development is provided.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old and able to swim.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Oxygen Administration must be obtained within 60 days.
• YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) instructor certification within one year.
• Must relate well to diverse groups in the community.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, safe aquatic classes per supervisor instructions.
• Educates and enforces safety rules and maintains class control.
• Communicates with participants and parents about goals and progress.
• Keeps accurate attendance and skill evaluation records.
• Builds relationships and connects members with the YMCA.

Duties include:

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Ensures participant safety during the program by educating about, and enforcing safety rules and 9maintaining class control.
• Openly communicates with participants and their parents to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living; appraises students and their parents of strengths, accomplishments and areas for improvement/skill progression.
• Keeps accurate class attendance and skill evaluation records.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.

6Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must be at least 16 years of age and be able to swim.
• American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Oxygen Administration certification must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
• Must obtain YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) instructor certification within one year of hire; all certifications must be kept current during employment.

• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
