Job Title: Swim Instructor & Lifeguard

Reports to: Deck Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides positive reinforcement and teaches swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
2. Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Maintains constant surveillance and recognition, makes appropriate rescues and administers first aid when necessary, according to facility EAP until the arrival emergency medical services.
3. Ensures that medical services are contacted by most appropriate means when necessary to respond to an emergency reports
4. Advance through cross-training in multiple roles and substitutes when necessary
5. Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
6. Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
7. Is required to work in a wet, humid environment on every shift.
8. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.
9. Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
10. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
11. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
12. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
13. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
14. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
15. Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education/Experience: Ability to work with children and adults. Excellent communication and organizational skills. High energy and willingness to learn and adapt. Previous experience with swimming preferred. Ability to obtain Lifeguard certification requirements. Strong work ethic. Must be able to pass background check prior to training. High school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.

Certificates and Licenses: Swim Instructor, Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred. Shallow water attendant highly recommended. Must obtain lifeguard cert (included in training)

Work Environment: While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to water heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
