Whether you're looking for a summer role or a part-time opportunity throughout the year, this position is ideal for those who enjoy being in the water, teaching others, and taking on meaningful responsibility.
In this role, you'll help teach swim lessons to individuals of all ages, ensure the safety of guests during open and lap swim hours, and assist with daily facility upkeep. You’ll also receive ongoing training in rescue techniques, first aid, and emergency response—and we expect you to stay physically prepared through regular swim practice.
What to Expect: Written + Physical Swim Assessment
Candidates selected to move forward will complete:
- A written swim assessment to evaluate knowledge of safety protocols and emergency response.
- A physical swim assessmentconsisting of:
- 150-yard swim,
- 2-minute tread (no hands),
- 50 additional yards, and
- A 10-pound brick retrieval from 20 yards away in under 1 minute and 40 seconds.
These assessments help ensure all team members are confident, capable, and prepared to respond in high-pressure situations.
Scheduling Requirements:
Please note: These positions require
a minimum of 25–30 hours per week, with availability that includes
weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

- Graduation from High School or have GED equivalent; or are currently enrolled in High School or equivalent and on track for graduation.
- Must be 15 years or older at time of hire.

Essential Functions of the Position:- Conducts swim lesson classes for various ages and skill levels.
- Evaluates swim participants at the end of each season.
- Lifeguards during open swims, lap swims, aquatic rentals, and special events.
- Enforces safety regulations in a professional, friendly manner.
- Follows emergency action plan in the event of an emergency.
- Provides emergency care/treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Performs hourly pool water chemical tests.
- Assists patrons with putting on life jackets.
- Attends and participates in all staff trainings and meetings.
- Assists in the clean-up of the entire pool facility and locker rooms
- Cautions and educates swimmers against dangerous situations.
- Is proficient with the emergency procedures and department policies at the aquatic center.
- Relates to the public in a positive manner.
- Adheres to safety practices and standards when performing all duties.

This position works indoors with exposure to regulated and moderate environmental conditions at the work site. The noise level is frequently moderate to loud. There may be routine physical discomforts from prolonged exposure to heat, humidity, moisture/wetness, and varying air conditions with temperatures of 80 degrees or higher. The position involves routine exposure to soiled materials and light cleaning substances such as pool cleaning solutions.Physical exertion to perform strong swimming abilities without fatigue is required. Ability to react to emergency situations by quick body movements. Occasionally assist or support persons of varying weights of up to 100 pounds. Position experiences regular climbing in and out of pool with prolonged periods of time swimming and treading water; standing, walking, bending, sitting, and kneeling. Frequently use hands and fingers to process or feel objects, tools, or controls. Tasks require the ability to perceive depth, textures, sounds, and visual cues or signals.
