Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director, provides leadership to all instructional areas of the Aquatics Program, maintaining safety and embodying YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Essential Functions

1. Provide exceptional customer service by greeting participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and demonstrating professional conduct.
2. Familiarity with American Red Cross Learn to Swim and YMCA Progressive Swim Lesson levels and guidelines.
3. Adapt teaching approaches based on participants' age, experience, and ability to meet course objectives.
4. Communicate regularly with participants and parents about progress.
5. Complete required paperwork promptly.
6. Maintain professionalism aligning with YMCA values and standards.
7. Organize and store class equipment.
8. Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
9. Enforce all pool rules.
10. Sign and adhere to the Salina Family YMCA Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, and Handbook agreements.
11. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Minimum age of 16.
2. Thorough knowledge of swimming and water safety skills, with ability to teach them.
3. Understanding of facility rules, policies, and emergency procedures.
4. Leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
5. Certifications: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, YMCA Progressive Swim Lesson Instructor, or equivalent training.
6. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications within 6 months of hire.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Must regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Able to sit, stand, bend, and respond swiftly to emergencies. Work may involve standing for extended periods and working in various temperature environments. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
