Salary: $20.00 - $31.75 Hourly

Seasonal Pay Rate: $24.00+ Hourly*

*Swim Instructors employed from June 14 – September 5, 2025, will be paid $24.00+ Hourly

Position Overview

North Brooklyn YMCA is seeking Swim Instructors responsible for maintaining safe conditions and promoting a positive environment in accordance with YMCA policies. The instructor will provide swim lessons for various ages and skill levels, motivating participants and ensuring safety.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Be Instructor Ready: wear uniform, prepare lesson plans, maintain records (attendance, progress tracking, end-of-session reports).
  2. Instruct according to YMCA standards: utilize lesson guides, guided discovery teaching, organize classes effectively, foster positive relationships.
  3. Maintain and prepare instructional equipment, report repairs, set up and store equipment for classes.
  4. Attend mandatory in-service trainings monthly.
  5. Obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 90 days and Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire.
  6. Understand and follow Emergency Action Plan and Evacuation Routes.
  7. Enforce safety rules consistently and fairly.
  8. Build positive relationships with participants, parents/guardians, staff, and non-class members.
  9. Promote other Aquatics programs; stay informed about pool schedules and activities.
  10. Maintain certification levels and recertify as needed.
  11. Participate in training, meetings, and special events.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Must be at least 17 years old or older.
  • Current YMCA Swim Lessons certification or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications (if required).
  • Ability to demonstrate swim strokes and BLS/BFA/EO skills.
  • Excellent hospitality skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
