Job summary

Kohler Co. in Kohler, WI is seeking a Swim Instructor to deliver American Red Cross-based swim instruction onsite. You will follow curriculum, supervise swimmers, and ensure a safe, friendly environment for members and guests.

Responsibilities include teaching classes and private lessons for all ages, keeping progress records, coordinating with parents, and maintaining equipment and facilities in a safe condition. Certification in WSI or BSI is required.

Qualifications

• Requires WSI or BSI swimming certification.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swim classes and private lessons for children and adults per curriculum.
• Maintain accurate records of class content and progress for all students.
• Engage with parents and manage disruptions; report behavioral concerns.
• Monitor pool safety policies and supervise youth.
• Notify the Facility Manager on Duty for major situations or questions.
• Promote classes and encourage participation; create an exciting learning environment.
• Oversee swim program equipment upkeep.
• Plan and run special events involving the pool.
• Maintain required certifications.
• Keep pool areas neat and free of litter.
• Be knowledgeable about hospitality facilities to answer inquiries.
• Perform other duties related to swim facility use as assigned.
• Attend staff meetings; minimum 10 of 12 annually.

Swim Instructors receive general direction and training from the Fitness Coordinator and curriculum based off American Red Cross. Instructors are responsible for providing swim instruction based on client ability level and provide pool supervision in accordance with standard operating procedures. Maintain an orderly, safe environment for members and guests.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• 1. Instruct swim classes and private lessons for children and adults according to curriculum. Proactively coach all students to assure optimum progress.
• 2. Maintain accurate records regarding class content and progress notations for all students.
• 3. Maintain a friendly and open rapport with parents; deal effectively with class disruptions when needed. Communicate important information concerning child behavior to parents.
• 4. Be attentive to aquatic activity at all times; observe and enforce all pool and safety policies. Make recommendations for safety procedure changes when appropriate. Ensure youth are tended to at all times.
• 5. Contact the facility Manager on Duty when you need assistance or to make them aware of major situations which arises or if you have any questions regarding your responsibilities or occurrences on your shift which require immediate attention.
• 6. Promote classes and lessons by engaging with members of all ages. Encourage first-time participation as well as re-enrollment to assure progression. Create an exciting and educational atmosphere.
• 7. Responsible for swim program equipment upkeep.
• 8. Recommend, plan and implement special events involving use of the pool.
• 9. Maintain certifications required of position.
• 10. Maintain order in the pool area. This includes ensuring all areas are neat and free of litter.
• 11. Maintain adequate knowledge of Hospitality facilities in order to respond to member and guest inquiries.
• 12. Perform other duties, relating to utilization of swim facilities, as assigned by the Fitness Coordinator.
• 13. Attend staff meetings as required; minimum of 10 of 12 annually.

Skills/Requirements

• Required certifications: WSI or BSI
• Demonstrates strong experience working with children and has a background in supporting children withspecial needs, fostering a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment.
