Job summary

Kohler Co. in Kohler, WI is seeking enthusiastic Swim Instructors who will deliver American Red Cross–based curriculum under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator.

You will teach classes and private lessons by client ability, supervise the pool, and maintain a safe, orderly environment for members and guests. You will maintain accurate records, communicate with parents, uphold pool safety policies, pursue ongoing certifications such as WSI/BSI, and participate in staff meetings.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in a program setting.

• Excellent communication with parents and guardians about child progress and behavior.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swim classes and private lessons for children and adults according to curriculum.
• Maintain accurate records of class content and student progress.
• Maintain a friendly rapport with parents and address class disruptions and child behavior with clear communication.
• Monitor pool activity at all times and enforce safety policies; recommend safety improvements as needed.
• Coordinate with Fitness Coordinator and facility manager as needed; participate in staff meetings.

Instructors are responsible for providing swim instruction based on client ability level and provide pool supervision in accordance with standard operating procedures. Maintain an orderly, safe environment for members and guests.

Instructors are responsible for providing swim instruction based on client ability level and provide pool supervision in accordance with standard operating procedures. Maintain an orderly, safe environment for members and guests.

Specific Responsibilities

• Instruct swim classes and private lessons for children and adults according to curriculum. Proactively coach all students to assure optimum progress.
• Maintain accurate records regarding class content and progress notations for all students.
• Maintain a friendly and open rapport with parents; deal effectively with class disruptions when needed. Communicate important information concerning child behavior to parents.
• Be attentive to aquatic activity at all times; observe and enforce all pool and safety policies. Make recommendations for safety procedure changes when appropriate. Ensure youth are tended to at all times.
• Contact the facility Manager on Duty when you need assistance or to make them aware of major situations which arises or if you have any questions regarding your responsibilities or occurrences on your shift which require immediate attention.
• Promote classes and lessons by engaging with members of all ages. Encourage first-time participation as well as re-enrollment to assure progression. Create an exciting and educational atmosphere.
• Responsible for swim program equipment upkeep.
• Recommend, plan and implement special events involving use of the pool.
• Maintain certifications required of position.
• Maintain order in the pool area. This includes ensuring all areas are neat and free of litter.
• Maintain adequate knowledge of Hospitality facilities in order to respond to member and guest inquiries.
• Perform other duties, relating to utilization of swim facilities, as assigned by the Fitness Coordinator.
• Attend staff meetings as required; minimum of 10 of 12 annually.

Skills/Requirements

• Required certifications: WSI or BSI
• Demonstrates strong experience working with children and has a background in supporting children with special needs, fostering a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment.
