The YMCA of Metro Atlanta, a leader in education, wellness, youth development, and community-building, is seeking a dedicated Swim Instructor II to join our team. We serve the Atlanta community by providing high-quality programs for children, youth, and adults, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can reach their full potential.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swim lessons (group, private, adaptive) for all ages and skill levels following YMCA guidelines.
• Create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and support participants in achieving their swimming goals.
• Teach proper swimming techniques, strokes, breathing, and water safety skills.
• Provide feedback, encouragement, and monitor student behavior to ensure a safe, positive learning environment.
• Develop positive relationships with participants, families, volunteers, and staff.
• Maintain records of attendance and progress reports.
• Follow all safety policies, complete incident reports, and organize class equipment.
• Train and supervise class aides and support in-service training sessions.

Minimum Requirements

• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
• Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• Minimum age of 17 years and at least 6 months of relevant experience.
• Strong swimming skills and effective communication abilities.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods for diverse learners, including those with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in swim instruction or coaching.
• Competitive swimming background or experience.
• Adaptive swim certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role requires physical activity, including lifting equipment and assisting children. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.

Employment Details

This position is full-time, based at Northwest Cobb YMCA, and includes benefits. Employment is contingent upon passing background checks, drug screening, and MVR, and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
