Nature And Scope

The Outdoor Lifeguard II assists the Aquatic Director in supervising the outdoor pool area. This experienced YMCA aquatic staff member has succeeded in swim lessons and lifeguard programs, sharing knowledge of policies and procedures. They serve in a supportive, non-supervisory role, demonstrating exemplary conduct and a positive attitude.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum age of 18
• At least 2 years of lifeguarding experience
• Current YMCA Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications; YMCA Lifeguard instructor preferred
• YMCA Leader Certificate (within 90 days)
• Ability to physically perform all lifeguard skills
• Ability to recognize noises, distress signals, and unsafe situations in the aquatic environment
• Ability to work with diverse populations and serve as a positive role model

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe aquatic environment, providing feedback to staff and noting suggestions for improvement
• Coordinate lifeguard placement and rotations for safety and efficiency
• Support opening/closing the pool, pool chemistry, and other tasks as needed
• Model standards as a lifeguard during shifts
• Respond to incidents, providing first response and documentation
• Deliver excellent customer service
• Assist with training sessions and attend monthly in-service trainings
