Job summary

Bend Park & Recreation District is seeking Swim Instructors to teach basic levels in our community learn-to-swim program for ages 6 months to adults. Paid training and certification support are provided, with a paid Swim Instructor course and a structured onboarding schedule.

Swim Instructors will plan and lead water safety and swim lessons, monitor class safety and progress, and communicate with guardians. Roles include Swim Instructor 1 and 2 with opportunities for mentorship and growth.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of water safety and swimming as a life skill.
• Experience or understanding of child development and age-appropriate learning.
• Ability to communicate clearly and motivate participants of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Plan and instruct basic swim and water safety programs per BPRD standards.
• Ensure safety, comfort and enjoyment of all class participants.
• Evaluate progress and complete reports; maintain rosters and attendance.
• Communicate with participants and guardians about lesson details.
• Participate in staff trainings and ongoing development.
• Supervise and mentor Swim Instructor 1 staff as needed.
