Job Description

The Hamden/North Haven Y's Camp Mountain Laurel is seeking Swim Instructors to teach and inspire swimmers of all ages and skill levels. Responsibilities include leading swim lessons, providing instruction and motivation, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all participants. Key Responsibilities

• Provide swim instruction to participants of varying skill levels following YMCA guidelines.
• Develop lesson plans and progress reports to track participant improvement.
• Ensure a safe and positive learning environment by following YMCA safety protocols.
• Engage with swimmers and their families, offering encouragement and guidance.
• Monitor pool surroundings and maintain constant awareness of participant safety.
• Promote YMCA aquatic programs to increase membership and engagement.
• Attend all required meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Ability to demonstrate proper swimming techniques and instruct participants effectively.
• Obtain and maintain CPR, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications within 60 days of employment.
• Obtain and maintain YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification within 6 months of employment.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with a passion for helping others.
• Ability to work with diverse populations, including youth and adults.
• Successfully complete a swimming and physical skills test upon hire and annually.
• Flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
