Job summary

The White Bear YMCA is seeking enthusiastic Swim Instructors age 16+ to teach swim lessons and water safety skills to children and adults. This flexible part-time role offers paid training, a free YMCA membership, and the chance to make a lasting impact by helping participants build confidence and lifelong swimming skills.

The position requires on-site work at the White Bear YMCA. Pay is $16.50/hour with evening and weekend shifts; benefits vary by part-time status and include some paid time off.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16.
• Completed YSL V6: Observe & Communicate, YSL V6: Orientation Principles of Youth Development, YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification.
• First Aid, CPR + AED for the Professional Rescuer annually, Oxygen Certification within 120 days of hire.
• Patience and the ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.
• Demonstrated ability to swim in shallow and deep water, and tread water (Stage 4 level swimming skill).
• Dedicated to member safety and the mission and philosophy of the YMCA.

Responsibilities

• Provide swimming instruction to students of various ages and ability levels.
• Maintain constant supervision of students, watch for swimmers needing assistance, and aid swimmers when necessary to ensure positive learning environment.
• Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and procedures for the pool and whirlpool.
• Understand the YMCA Swim Lessons program, including swimming levels and skills taught for each level. Evaluate students and recommend placement in the correct skill level.
