Job summary

White Bear Area YMCA is hiring a Swim Instructor (In Training) in White Bear Lake, MN. The role offers a flexible schedule and paid training, with progression to a certified Swim Instructor at a higher hourly rate upon successful completion of training.

You will shadow certified instructors, learn swim lesson programming and safety procedures, and gain YMCA Swim Instructor Skills verifications within 90 days. A positive, safety-focused environment is emphasized.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16.
• Verification of SI readiness required within 90 days of hire.
• Complete YSL V6: Observe & Communicate, YSL V6: Orientation Principles of Youth.
• Development, YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification within 90 days from date of hire.
• Patience and the ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.
• Demonstrated ability to swim in shallow and deep water, and tread water (Stage 4 level swimming skill)
• Dedicated to member safety and the mission and philosophy of the YMCA.

Responsibilities

• Shadow and assist certified swim instructors and learn programming and emergency procedures. Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and procedures for the pool, body of water and whirlpool.
