Job summary

YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is seeking a Swim Instructor to run safe, engaging swim classes under the direction of the Program Coordinator or Aquatics Director. You must be at least 16, able to swim, and pass required certifications within 90 days.

Experience leading group exercise is a plus, and ongoing professional development is supported. The role offers flexible scheduling, a 20-hour work week with free child care, and membership benefits, in a community-focused YMCA setting in

Qualifications

• Must possess or obtain HCP within 90 days of employment, First Aid, Lifeguard or Aquatic Safety Assistant certification within 90 days of employment.
• Current Swim Lesson Certification (YMCA or American Red Cross) or Water Exercise Certifications (YMCA, Arthritis Foundation, etc.)
• Demonstrates emotional maturity and judgment.
• Experience leading group exercise is preferred.
• Must be able to swim as determined by passing a swim test (strokes you will be instructing; able to tread water for 2 minutes).

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Program Coordinator and/ or Aquatics Director, the Swim Instructor will provide safe and challenging classes according the YMCA and safety guidelines.
• Support a positive, safe, and inclusive aquatic program environment.
• Assist with program development and adapt activities to different ages and abilities.
