Job summary

Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC in Milwaukee, WI is seeking an energetic Swim Instructor Coordinator to support pool operations, oversee the Private Swim program, and blend administrative tasks with hands-on instruction, lifeguarding, and coaching.

The role requires 2+ years of swim instruction, ARC Lifeguarding with CPR/AED, and the ability to teach Learn-to-Swim to kids aged 6 months to 14 years. Expect a Tue–Sat schedule, with some extended days and weekend responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of swim instruction experience required.
• Certifications Required: Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
• Certifications Preferred: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certifications.
• Ability to teach ARC Learn-to-Swim curriculum to ages 6 months to 14 years, with adaptive techniques for private lessons.
• Knowledge of Adaptive Aquatics programming and competitive swim coaching.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Tech-savvy: Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Traction Rec.
• Ability to give and receive feedback professionally in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Private Swim Support: assist with private swim coordination, instructor support, family communication, scheduling, lesson package management, and record-keeping.
• Direct Aquatics Service: 30–35 hours per week of direct service including group/private instruction, lifeguarding, swim team coaching, and ARC courses.
• Skill Evaluations: conduct swim evaluations and place swimmers by skill level.
• Staff Development: assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training swim instructors and lifeguards.
• Enrollments & Rosters: process registrations, transfers, and account adjustments using Traction Rec; maintain rosters and records.
• Communication: respond promptly to participant inquiries via phone, email, and in person.
• Check-In Support: assist with check-in during group lessons.
• Additional Duties: serve as Manager on Duty; support events and Positive Rules of Communication.

Swim Instructor Coordinator

The Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC is seeking an energetic, organized, and skilled Aquatics Coordinator to join our Aquatics Team!

This is a full-time position with a typical schedule of Tuesday through Saturday. Candidates should have the ability to work a varied schedule to support operational needs, including frequent extended workdays, as well as weekends and holidays as required.

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting overall pool operations and assisting the Assistant Director with the coordination and oversight of our Private Swim program. You will blend administrative expertise with hands‑on aquatics instruction, coaching, and lifeguarding to ensure high‑quality program delivery and an outstanding participant experience.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Operations

Private Swim Support: Assist the Assistant Director with private swim coordination, instructor support, family communication, scheduling, lesson package management, and record-keeping.

Direct Aquatics Service: Provide 30–35 hours per week of direct service, including group and private swim instruction, lifeguarding, swim team coaching, and teaching American Red Cross courses.

Skill Evaluations: Conduct swim evaluations and place swimmers in appropriate skill levels.

Staff Development: Assist the Assistant Aquatics Director with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training swim instructors and lifeguards, as well as conducting ongoing in‑services.

Administrative & Customer Service

Enrollments & Rosters: Process registrations, transfers, and account adjustments using Traction Rec. Maintain swim lesson rosters, report cards, and track session completion data.

Communication: Respond promptly and welcomingly to participant inquiries via phone, email, and in person.

Check-In Support: Assist with check-in during group swim lessons as needed.

Additional Duties

Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as assigned.

Support JCC special events and actively practice our organization’s Positive Rules of Communication.
