Job description

The Swim Instructor at the YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides proper, safe instruction of all levels of the Y USA swim lessons. Available hours from 9am-11.30am.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following lesson plans provided for each class level.
  2. Develops and maintains positive relationships with program participants and parents/caregivers while supporting them in achieving their goals.
  3. Relays information regarding participants' progress as well as other programs to parents/caregivers, when appropriate, while maintaining a friendly and warm atmosphere.
  4. Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, parent handbooks, certificates).
  5. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  6. Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Swim Instructor I

  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.

Swim Instructor II

  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
  • High School Diploma
  • 3 years teaching swim lessons experience

Swim Instructor III

  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
  • High School Diploma
  • 5 years of experience teaching swim lessons
  • 3 years of experience supervising a staff team

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance

Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
