Job summary

Oshman Family Jewish Community Center (OFJCC) in Silicon Valley seeks a Swim Instructor for year‑round positions. You will provide group instruction to varied ages in our indoor and outdoor pools with emphasis on fun and water safety.

Ideal candidates have strong swimming skills, excellent communication, and a proactive, energetic approach. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required. Lifeguard and CPR/First Aid credentials are preferred or obtainable within 90 days of hire.

The Job:

If you have a passion for the pool and enjoy kids, you’ll love being a swim instructor in our fantastic indoor and outdoor pools. As a Swim Instructor, you will provide group swim instruction to students of varying ages and abilities while maintaining a safe and effective learning environment. Emphasizing fun and water safety is key. Ask us about our other Aquatics roles, including Lifeguard.

The Core Duties:

• Provide swim instruction to various levels and age groups and help improve overall skill set and technique
• Perform all swimming strokes and skills taught at all levels
• Plan lessons, select appropriate drills and evaluate the student’s progress
• Present proper demonstrations and explain skills, analyze, evaluate and correct performance, minimize fear and use appropriate teaching devices
• Maintain a safe and positive teaching environment. Create an atmosphere where the student loves swimming and the water

The Essentials:

• Individual must have a dynamic personality. Enthusiastic, energetic, friendly & personable
• Strong swimming background preferred
• 1+ years of experience being an aquatic instructor preferred
• Excellent communication skills, customer service oriented commitment to the fitness industry/environment
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certified preferred
• Lifeguard Training Certified or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire required
• Experience working with children up to 12 years old
• Ability to multitask
• Must have the ability to inspire and motivate others with great people skills
• Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, organized, with good time management and great follow-up skills
• Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
