Job summary

Mundeleinparks is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to educate and train swim lesson participants in a safe, fun environment. Hours may vary including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The role requires workers aged 16+, ability to work with both children and adults, and completion of Swim Instructor training. CPR, First Aid and AED certification are required (or must be obtained).

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older to be a Swim Instructor.
• Ability to work with children of various ages and adults.
• Swim Instructor training must be completed.
• CPR, First Aid and AED Certification required; if not certified, must obtain certification.

Responsibilities

• Introduce aquatics skills at various levels and teach with enthusiasm to group and private lessons.
• Plan and have the lesson ready before each class.
• Arrive for lessons at least 15 minutes before each lesson to set up.
• Interact effectively with parents and participants.
• Report unsafe conditions to Supervisor.
• Instruct using correct techniques and demonstrations.
• Maintain attendance and progress records for all students.
• Complete progress and final certificates by the required date.
• Report to Swim Lessons Coordinator if there are children that need level adjustments.
• Maintain neat appearance and district uniform attire.
• Know Emergency Action Plan and perform required procedures.
• Record all time worked accurately.
• Follow staff policies and duties; perform other related duties.

The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing education and training to swim lesson participants in accordance with District guidelines and in an environment that is safe, non-threatening, and fun. Hours may vary including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications - Education, Experience and Training

Individuals must be 16 years of age, or older to be a Swim Instructor. The individual must be able to work with children of many different ages and adults. The individual must demonstrate maturity. The individual must complete Swim Instructor training.
CPR, First Aid and AED Certification required and if not certified, must become certified.

Essential Functions

• Introduce aquatics skills at various levels and teach with enthusiasm, knowledge, discipline, and care for both group lessons and private lessons.
• Plan and have the lesson available before each class.
• Arrive for lessons at least 15 minutes before each lesson in order to set up for class.
• Conduct self in an effective and tactful manner with parents and participants.
• Report all unsafe conditions to Supervisor.
• Instruct using correct techniques and demonstrations.
• Maintain accurate attendance and progress records on all students.
• Complete all progress and final certificates for students by the required date.
• Report to Swim Lessons Coordinator if there are children that need to be moved up or down to another level based on their skill.
• Maintain a neat and well‑groomed appearance while on duty and remain in District uniform attire.
• Gain knowledge of established Emergency Action Plan and perform appropriate skills and procedures under this plan.
• Record all time worked accurately.
• Practice and follow all policies and procedures as stated in the staff manual and directed by Supervisor.
• Perform other related duties, as assigned.
