Job summary

YMCA City Center is seeking qualified Swim Instructors to teach swimmers of all ages in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Help participants build water safety skills, improve their swimming abilities, and develop confidence that lasts a lifetime.

The role offers flexible hours with daytime, evening, and Saturday shifts; benefits include free access to YMCA fitness centers and pools, discounts on programs and lessons, and free Child Watch when available.

Qualifications

• Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification.
• Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
• Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following lesson plans provided for each class level.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with program participants and parents/caregivers while supporting them in achieving their goals.
• Relays information regarding participants' progress as well as other programs to parents/caregivers, when appropriate, while maintaining a friendly and warm atmosphere.
• Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, parent handbooks, certificates).
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings when requested.

POSITION SUMMARY:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Swim Instructor I

• Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification
• Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
• Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.

Swim Instructor II

• Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification
• Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
• Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
• High School Diploma
• 3 years teaching swim lessons experience OR completion of YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) Training.

Swim Instructor III

• Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification
• Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
• Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
• High School Diploma
• Meet all requirements for Level II
• 5 years of experience teaching swim lessons
• 3 years of experience supervising a staff team
