Job description

Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Builds members' and the community's understanding of the YMCA's cause and impact. Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, culturally aware, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. Exemplifies the Y's commitment to DEI and the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Responds to all member and community inquiries promptly.
2. Keeps abreast of all emergency procedures and responds immediately to emergency situations following YMCA policies and the safe-in-six model (Prevent, Recognize, Activate EAP, Rescue, Care, Report).
3. Understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and the state Health Department.
4. Performs equipment checks and ensures necessary equipment is available.
5. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age of 18
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid
• Current YMCA certified Swim Instructor/trainer, YMCA Water Safety instructor/trainer. The YMCA will assist with training to be achieved within the first year of employment.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• In accordance with the Keene Family YMCA's vaccination policy, all employees and volunteers approved for COVID-19 vaccination are required to be vaccinated unless a reasonable accommodation is approved.
• All positions require passing a background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and around the zone of responsibility. Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
• Meet strength and lifting requirements, including lifting up to 60 pounds alone and requesting assistance if needed.
• Vocalize instructions clearly during emergencies.
