Job summary

The British Swim School is hiring a Swim Instructor in Hermosa Beach, CA. You will teach children as young as 3 months and adults using our progressive methods, with comprehensive training provided. No prior teaching experience is required.

This hands-on, high-energy role focuses on building trust in the water, keeping lessons fun, and adhering to the curriculum while maintaining certifications. Shifts include weekday evenings and some weekends, with year-round employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or progress toward completion.
• Strong swimming skills with experience in all four strokes.
• Enthusiastic and engaging personality.
• Experience working with children.
• Must maintain certifications throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Follow British Swim School curriculum to deliver safe, competent lessons.
• Teach swimmers in water, focusing on connection and making learning fun.
• Work evening shifts and weekend shifts.
• Maintain certifications and training.
• Support Aquatics Leader and/or Business Owner(s).

$18-$21/hour | Paid training | Tue & Wed afternoons/evenings required | 3-5 hour shifts | Proficient in all 4 strokes

The Position

Looking for a job that actually feels meaningful? At British Swim School, our instructors do more than teach swim lessons. They help save lives.

As a Swim Instructor, you will teach children as young as 3 months and adults using our proven, gentle, and progressive methods. We provide comprehensive training, so no prior teaching experience is required. You will build the skills and confidence to work with swimmers of all ages and abilities.

This is a hands‑on, high‑energy role focused on connection. You will spend your time in the water, engaging with swimmers, building trust, and making learning fun.

We are looking for team members who want a consistent, year‑round role. This is not a seasonal or summer‑only position.

Your Typical Responsibilities

• Support the Aquatics Leader and/or Business Owner(s)
• Follow British Swim School's curriculum to ensure safe & competent lessons & environment
• Evening shifts (3:15 -7pm), weekend shifts (8:45am- 1pm)
• Maintain certifications throughout employment
• Work in an environment where noise levels run moderate‑high, and stand in the water for up to 4 consecutive hours

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma, equivalent, or in the process of completion
• Strong swimming skills, experience with the 4 strokes
• Enthusiastic personality
• Experience working with children
• Must maintain certifications throughout the length of employment
• Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics-specific training and testing

Preferred Qualifications

• Competitive swim or swim team background
• Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification(s) preferred (but can be obtained during training)
