Job summary

Chambanamoms in Champaign, IL seeks a YMCA Swim Instructor to lead swimming lessons, following YMCA guidelines and prepared lesson plans while supporting members and students to reach their goals. You will build positive relationships with volunteers, families, and staff, and help connect participants with YMCA programs.

Responsibilities include delivering lessons, maintaining attendance and progress notes, following safety procedures, organizing equipment, and training aides as needed.

Qualifications

• Must hold YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certification required.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills according to YMCA standards.
• Minimum age 16.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members, and colleagues; engages families with YMCA activities.
• Conveys aquatics program information and schedules; refers participants to other programs when appropriate.
• Maintains records as required (attendance, progress reports).
• Follows YMCA policies, rules, and safety procedures; completes incident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment and reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.

General Function

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes.

Know-How

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certification required.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• At least 16 years of age.
