Job summary

New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), including the SONYMA Mortgage Insurance Fund (MIF), seeks an SVP/Director to lead mortgage loan underwriting and portfolio risk management. You will report to the Commissioner/CEO, supervise staff, and interact with insured mortgagors or servicers to protect the fund’s integrity.

The role emphasizes budget oversight, investment reviews, and maintaining Moody’s Aa1 rating, while chairing the agency credit committee and guiding strategic risk

Qualifications

• Ten years of specialized experience in mortgage insurance or similar risk roles.
• Familiarity with underwriting multifamily and single-family mortgage loans.
• Proven track record in establishing credit risk policies and risk mitigation.
• Excellent analytical, management and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage staff and liaise with insured mortgagors or servicers regarding insured loans.
• Supervise underwriting of mortgage insurance applications and present to SONYMA Board.
• Review MIF commitments and insure portfolios; oversee budget preparation.
• Monitor investment of MIF reserves and coordinate with Budget on excess funds.
• Maintain Moody's Aa1 rating and chair the Agency's credit committee.
