Job summary

Moog Inc. in Santa Barbara, CA is seeking a Sustainment Engineer to join the Moog Space and Defense Group.

This cross-functional role coordinates sustainment, fielding, and upgrade activities for turreted weapon systems, supporting proposals and field deployments. The role requires 5+ years of relevant experience, strong diagnostics and BOM/schematic interpretation skills, and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 5-years relevant technical experience.
• Experience sustaining, fielding, maintaining, or modernizing complex military or aerospace systems.
• Ability to read and interpret BOMs, schematics, specs and MIL standards for sustainment work.
• Detailed knowledge of hydraulic or mechanical actuation products and testing.
• Experience coordinating with customers and suppliers on complex projects.
• Proven skills in Root Cause/Failure Analysis and repair process improvement.
• Ability to obtain and retain a Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop operation/test/maintenance instructions for field service operations and maintenance manuals.
• Review maintainability analyses and provide technical advisement across teams.
• Lead configuration management efforts and oversee engineering changes.
• Review and design procedures for future field retrofits, identifying tools, parts and effort.
• Assess Technical Manuals and parts kitting, and repair procedures for LRUs.
• Ensure product integrity and quality in production and fielded systems.
• Provide engineering support to Moog departments to improve quality, cost avoidance, and on-time delivery.
• Maintain deep understanding of turreted product designs and applications.
• Provide training to sustainment team members on repair and overhaul of retrograde material.
• Identify opportunities for quality improvements in assembly/test and design, and plan for schedule impacts.
• Support proposals with technical content and cost estimates for spares and retrofits.
• Collaborate with US Military depots to establish reset/overhaul requirements and OEM-standard procedures.
• Assist in business development by defining requirements to capture contracts.
• Travel to sub vendor/partner locations for spares management and on-time delivery improvements.
• Develop configuration management planning for upgrades and rework.
• Identify spares availability and vendor resource constraints.
• Provide technical guidance for FSR training development.
