Parker Chomerics, headquartered in Woburn, MA, seeks a Sustaining Engineering Lead to drive localization and sustaining initiatives for conductive polymers and elastomers. • BS in an Engineering field with 4–6 years of experience in polymer-based material development.
• Preferred: MS in Polymer Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field with 4–6 years of polymer material development.
• Experience leading a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
• Familiarity with polymer and elastomer processing techniques (high shear mixing, milling, molding, extrusion).
• Excellent communication skills with a proven track record of publishing technical reports, patents, trade secrets and journals.
• Working knowledge of managed stage-gate processes for new product and process development.
• Proficiency with DOE, statistical analysis tools and polymer analysis applications.
• Must be a US Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team to support product development and qualification, focusing on raw material sustainability.
• Manage projects and direct reports while performing hands-on lab work.

Position Summary

The Sustaining Engineering Lead is responsible for contributing to Chomerics’s technical initiatives focused on localization and sustaining initiatives of electrically and thermally conductive polymers and elastomers. The scientist will manage the qualification testing and review of second source raw materials while ensuring cross functionals review and sign off of necessary changes. The scientist will work in close collaboration with other R&D team members, process engineering, and manufacturing engineering functions to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

• Team lead responsible for managing efforts to support product development and qualification, with an emphasis on raw material sustainability initiatives.
• Responsible for project management, managing direct reports, and conducting hands-on laboratory work.
• Support the sustaining and localization efforts by identifying and evaluating alternative raw materials, and conducting thorough qualification trials in coordination with the operations team.
• Develop working hypotheses, design experiments, and develop experimental plans to gain new understandings of material, product, or process performance.
• Utilize technical resources to develop materials, test methods, and quality control measures for innovative new materials and processes.
• Provide technical problem solving consultation for root cause analysis and troubleshooting of polymer science related manufacturing and quality issues.
• Hands-on ability to set up, adjust and operate a wide variety of polymer analytical and polymer processing equipment.
• Work and interact effectively and professionally with others throughout various levels of the organization.
• Actively build a network of peers with similar interests and complementary experience.
• Promote a safe working environment in compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety initiatives as required.

Qualifications

• Preferred: M.S. in Polymer Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or experience in a related technical discipline with 4-6 years of experience, preferably in polymer-based material development.
• Required: B.S. in an Engineering field with 4-6 years of experience in polymer-based material development.
• Showcase specialized scientific competence leading larger projects and consistently meets tight project deadlines and time constraints.
• Experience leading a team comprised of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
• Familiarity with polymer and elastomer process techniques, such as high shear mixing, milling, molding, extrusion, etc.
• Ability to research, investigate, propose and implement new technologies.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with a proven track record of publishing technical reports, patents, trade secrets and scientific journals.
• Working knowledge of managed stage-gate processes for new product and process development.
• Proficiency with DOE, statistical analysis tools and polymer analysis applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills, effective listener, open to learning and responds positively to frequent change.
• Ability to work effectively engaged in small or large cross-functional teams with people of diverse backgrounds. Skills in planning, resource and time management, record keeping and goal completion.
• Must be a US Citizen.

• Pay Range: $102305 to $170240 annually
