Job Description

Welcome to Land, Buildings & Real Estate.

Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) is the operational core of Stanford University’s physical campus. LBRE constructs and maintains the Stanford campus, where advancements across the academic spectrum are made possible. Our work is founded upon the collective value of dedication, innovation, expertise, teamwork, and continuous improvement. We are committed to serving the university’s academic mission, as well as preserving and enhancing Stanford’s 8,180 acres, and pride ourselves on supporting the teaching and research of the university as “Caretakers of a Legacy." Stanford Transportation manages Stanford’s award-winning Transportation Demand Management program, which includes Stanford’s free Marguerite shuttle program, transit and car-free options, bicycle program, and parking operations. We have a job opportunity for a Sustainable Mobility Program Manager at the main campus. What you will do in this role:

The Sustainable Mobility Program Manager leads the development, implementation, and administration of Stanford’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program, one of the nation’s leading University TDM programs, and functions related to the program. This role regularly collaborates with University stakeholders as well as public agencies, operators, and vendors who provide services related to the TDM program.

For 2027 specifically, a core goal for this hire will be managing all aspects of the launch of a Commute Management Platform, including vendor onboarding, platform setup and configuration, and the development of communications and outreach, leading to the eventual program release.

TDM Policy and Program Administration and Development
  • Oversee policy and administration of Stanford Transportation’s TDM programs, including, but not limited to, its transit pass programs, vanpool program, sustainable commute planning, and other awareness and incentive programs.

  • Evaluate programs, functions, policies, and procedures based on data, trends, benchmarking, and research. Identify issues and develop alternative solutions, which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.

  • Recommend improvements to existing TDM programs and customer service and recommend potential program expansions to achieve Stanford Transportation’s mission, vision, and values as well as the University’s regulatory requirements across Stanford lands.

  • Identify opportunities for new TDM pilot programs that could further Stanford Transportation’s mission, vision and values as well as regulatory requirements and suggest potential program design, policy structure, implementation methodology, and evaluation metrics.

  • Collaborate closely with Stanford Transportation’s internal Communications, Customer Service, and Data teams and others to ensure a high level of confidence in Stanford Transportation’s online presence and printed materials. Contribute to the development of outreach and marketing strategies that may include relationship development, communications, and compliance.

Program and Staff Management
  • Manage and develop the Sustainable Mobility team, including the Sustainable Commute Programs Lead, a Sustainable Mobility Events and Outreach Lead, and a Sustainable Transportation Administrative Associate. Assess training needs, professional development opportunities, and advocate for the team’s continued growth.

  • Manage procurement processes, contracts, budgets, vendor and client relationships, and build and maintain robust partnerships with internal and external stakeholders directly impacted by and/or involved in our program offerings.

  • Develop and oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.

  • Represent the program and functions within the University by committing resources and providing information and/or training. Represent the program and functions at the University level to external stakeholders and constituencies.

  • This position reports to the Director of Sustainable Transportation Planning & Mobility and is an involved member of the Stanford Transportation Operations management team.

Customer Service & Events Management
  • Ensure the highest levels of TDM program customer service, including inquiries, problem resolution, and sustainable commute planning services. Analyze TDM program participation and customer feedback and make recommendations for improvements. Act as an escalation point for customer inquiries.

  • Oversee the TDM Team’s organization of and participation in a wide variety of campus events including, but not limited to, new employee and student orientations, informational events, programming, and classes to further build awareness and engagement around the use of sustainable modes of transportation.
