Job Description: Sustainable Landscapes Apprentice

Time: Part Time, seasonal (15-30 hrs/week)

Location: Minneapolis, MN #LI-Onsite

Job Description

Are you passionate about environmental stewardship and outdoor work? Join our team to gain paid training in landscaping and watershed management while making a difference in Minneapolis communities.

As a Sustainable Landscapes Apprentice, you will maintain habitats and improve water quality throughout Minneapolis. Your tasks include caring for gardens, implementing rain garden projects, and developing water catchment systems to prevent pollution. You will participate in a structured mentorship program aimed at building career skills and pathways to employment. This position reports to our Program Director.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain gardens through invasive plant removal, trash cleanup, watering, and replanting.
  2. Assist with rain garden design, plant selection, and garden health assessment.
  3. Help plan and construct rain catchment systems.
  4. Track project budgets and develop invoices.
  5. Schedule and coordinate site work as needed.
  6. Participate in 5-10 hours weekly of training and independent learning in landscaping, habitat maintenance, and career development.
  7. Travel to various project sites throughout Minneapolis.
Essential Experience
  1. Minimum age of 18.
  2. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  3. Capacity to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Non-Essential Experience
  1. Basic knowledge of Minnesota and invasive plants.
  2. Garden care experience.
  3. Familiarity with power tools such as weed trimmers.
  4. Valid driver's license.
Compensation & Benefits
  1. $18/hour.
