Job summary

Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA, seeks a skilled supervisor for sustainable row crop production within the Plant Sciences department. The role includes irrigation and fertilization programs, pest management, and non-organic production of vegetables and forages for department needs.

You will support instructional labs and research projects, training faculty and students in proper equipment use and field safety, and ensure timely access for lab work.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible experience in production of field, garden, vegetable, or specialty crops.
• Equivalent to 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic work at a recognized college or university (additional experience may substitute for education)

Responsibilities

• Oversee irrigation and fertilization programs and non-organic production of vegetables and forages.
• Assist faculty with instructional laboratories and research projects; set up lab classes and train faculty/students in equipment use and safe field operations.
• Provide supplies and ensure equipment is maintained in good working order; schedule operations for safe access by faculty and students.
• Provide oversight and training to student personnel at the Crops Unit; manage safety and food safety training and crop production activities.
• Maintain records and inventory (pesticides, tools, safety equipment, etc.).
