Job summary

Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA, is seeking a staff Plant Sciences technician to oversee sustainable row crop production, including vegetables and forages, and manage irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and related facilities and equipment.

Under general supervision, the incumbent will support instructional laboratories and research projects, provide training to student personnel, schedule field and lab activities, and maintain safety, records, and inventory to ensure compliant

Qualifications

Three years of progressively responsible experience in the production of field, garden, vegetable, or specialty crops (orchards, vineyards, feed crops, etc.).
Equivalent to 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic work at a recognized college or university, including agriculture and science courses applicable to the production of general field and specialty crops.

Responsibilities

Oversee sustainable row crop production, including vegetables and forages, and manage irrigation and fertilization programs.
Lead pest management programs and ensure compliance with safety, fertilizer, and pesticide regulations.
Provide services to support instructional laboratories and research projects; assist faculty in setting up lab classes and scheduling access for field operations.
Provide training to faculty and student personnel; maintain equipment and supplies; ensure records and inventory are up to date.
