Position Summary:
The Sustainability Manager will lead the development and execution of a customer-oriented sustainability strategy aligned with corporate Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) targets. The strategy aligns with established and evolving environmental regulations impacting products and manufacturing sites including global chemical and substance regulations, directives impacting products throughout their lifecycle, and site sustainability initiatives. Execution will require working closely with and leading various cross-functional internal and external stakeholder teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead business Sustainability strategic plan with execution initiatives based on market, customer and regulatory ESG trends that includes product environmental compliance.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability programs through data analysis and reporting and collaborate with stakeholders to adjust accordingly.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of existing and evolving ESG and product environmental regulations and directives and communicate evolving sustainability regulations and their impact on products and operations.
- Act as the point of contact to represent the company and sustainability efforts both internally and externally in addressing ESG requests from customers and manage customer-related activities.
- Develop support materials that can be used by the sales and operations team to facilitate customer and supplier engagement more independently, e.g. presentations, reports, models and simulation tools, life-cycle analysis, etc.
- Define, manage and report the businesses emissions Long-term plan (scope 1, 2 and 3) to capture the impact of actions, projects and investments in a roadmap towards more energy efficient operations and lower carbon footprint products.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with sustainability reporting (customer requirements, CSRD, CDP, EcoVadis, TCFD) from sites, required suppliers and functions, and support any ESG certifications needed.
- Analyze, lead and manage the sustainability initiatives and investments required to achieve a long-term carbon neutrality scenario for the business working with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability practices into business operations, supply chain management, and product lifecycle management.
- Lead the development and implementation of product environmental programs, software tools, and processes in ensuring product environmental compliance (e.g. RoHS, REACH, POPs, WEEE, Packaging, etc.).
- Develop, track, and communicate reporting metrics and key performance indicators on product environmental compliance, sustainability, and operational environmental compliance.
- Prepare and deliver data summaries and presentations on sustainability performance and compliance to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with site teams to estimate GHG emissions, waste, water, and other sustainability metrics. Manage sustainability data collection and reporting for GHG Scopes 1, 2, 3, waste, and water.
- Support continuous improvement in operational environmental compliance performance e.g. (reducing GHG emissions, waste and water use) while providing direction on anticipated future environmental regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Environmental, Health, and Safety function to assess environmental regulation impacts on business operational changes (i.e. relocations, site closures, expansions, remodels, or acquisitions).
- Stay up to date with emerging environmental trends, technologies, and regulations to drive continuous improvement in our sustainability initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental engineering or science, Chemical Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science, or related.
- 8+ years of experience leading sustainability programs, including on industrial product compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.
- 5+ year's experience utilizing product environmental compliance and carbon accounting software platforms to compile, review, analyze, and manage environmental sustainability data (e.g., Scopes 1, 2, 3 emissions, waste, water consumption).
- 3+ years experience in reporting to CDP, Eco Vadis, TCFD, etc.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep expertise in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting protocols, assessing climate-related risks and opportunities, and frameworks underlying European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS)
- Proven project management abilities, with a track record of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A self-motivated, driven team player capable of managing multiple tasks and working collaboratively with other functions to accomplish common goals.
- Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to present metrics, explain findings, and articulate issues and challenges together with proposed solutions.
- Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills with attention to detail and highly effective communication skills to engage and present to agencies and global internal and external audiences at varying levels.
- Strong understanding of international product certification standards related to industrial flame and gas safety products.
- Knowledge of quality, supply chain and manufacturing systems and connection to regulatory or compliance requirements.
- Proficient in data management, mathematical computations, interpreting environmental information and understanding the principles of chemistry and physics as they pertain to environmental engineering processes for sustainability.
- The ability to travel globally with no travel limitations throughout business operating footprint.
- Follow department operating procedures and have an open attitude for continuous improvement.
