As a Sustainability Intern, you will support Burlington’s Sustainability, Environmental Compliance and Analytics team through hands‑on exposure to environmental data analytics, renewable energy management, environmental compliance, and cross‑functional collaboration. You will gain real‑world experience through:
Analyzing data trends and anomalies in energy and waste performance and preparing summaries to support internal reporting and decision-making. Supporting the development and maintenance of forecasting models for energy and waste data, including updating inputs and assisting with output analysis. Coordinating with Energy Engineering and internal teams to develop and implement project planning based on environmental analytics findings, including opportunity identification, resolution tracking progress, and resulting savings models and validation.
Compiling and tracking renewable energy credits (RECs) from multiple sources. Monitoring and managing active solar arrays to ensure optimal performance. This includes energy production trending and initiating repairs and maintenance for owned solar. Supporting improvements to renewable energy data tracking and reporting processes.
Coordinating data and documentation required for sustainability disclosures. Assisting the Sustainability team in the preparation of data sets and reporting for various federal, state, and local environmental compliance programs. Assisting in identifying and addressing gaps in data controls and compliance processes.
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Data Analytics, Energy Management, Climate Studies, or a related field. Expected to complete a Bachelor's degree between December 2027 and May 2028. Interest in sustainability, environmental analytics, energy and waste data, greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy, and/or quantitative analysis. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and functions. Demonstrated interest in learning, problem solving, and applying new concepts. Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain attention to detail, and stay organized in a dynamic environment. Interest in data analysis, sustainability data management, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives. Familiarity with utility billing, energy consumption, waste management, or greenhouse gas emissions concepts is beneficial but not required. This role requires travel to Burlington offices, vendor appointments, market visits, and store locations throughout the region. Candidates must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position.
