Job summary

City of Roanoke is seeking a Sustainability Coordinator to drive programs that cut greenhouse gas emissions and support the Climate Action Plan. This role involves data analysis, reporting to city council, and promoting energy efficiency across municipal operations and the community.

Under the Sustainability Manager, you will coordinate communications, education efforts, and partnerships, while supporting grant applications and policy recommendations to advance environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 2 years of sustainability program experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex reports and regulations; strong communication skills.
• Valid driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate public communication of the city’s climate program across webpages, social media and local media.
• Lead BRITE program initiatives and engage with communities and schools.
• Coordinate events and expositions related to sustainability for multiple city departments.
• Assist with LEED and other green building certifications as needed.
• Evaluate building performance to reduce energy use and report progress to leadership.
• Identify funding opportunities and prepare applications for sustainability initiatives.
