Sustainability and Energy Manager
Location: Bowling Green, Kentucky

Position overview

This role leads energy management and sustainability initiatives within a heavy manufacturing facility, with a strong focus on identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and deliver measurable cost savings. The Sustainability and Energy Manager will report to the General Manager and lead cross-functional energy initiatives while managing continuous improvement and capital projects from opportunity identification through implementation. This position combines energy data analysis, project management, plant utility optimization, cost planning, and collaboration with Maintenance, Facilities, Environmental, and other plant teams. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience managing energy‑related projects within a heavy manufacturing environment and the ability to turn operational data into meaningful improvement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the division's Energy and Sustainability Programs and serve as the primary contact for energy‑related topics
• Lead cross-functional teams responsible for energy‑related activities and initiatives
• Identify energy‑saving opportunities and develop strategies to improve energy efficiency and reduce unnecessary consumption
• Analyze operational energy consumption and costs across electricity, natural gas, water, compressed air, welding gas, and other utilities
• Manage energy‑related continuous improvement and capital projects, including project expenses, timelines, documentation, and savings
• Partner with Maintenance, Facilities, and Environmental teams to develop and implement energy‑related cost‑saving measures
• Prepare RFQs for new energy‑related projects and support energy budget creation and cost planning
• Monitor energy performance indicators and identify optimization opportunities through energy monitoring systems
• Lead monthly Energy Team meetings, energy walks, and treasure hunts while maintaining required energy and sustainability reporting
• Prepare analytical reports and present energy‑related recommendations, project updates, and savings results to management
• Benchmark energy‑efficiency measures and innovative technologies across other Magna plants and suppliers
• Identify available financial incentives and funding opportunities for energy‑related projects

Key Qualifications / Education

• Degree in Energy/Sustainability Management and/or a minimum of 3 years of related experience in energy project management or industrial facilities management
• Heavy manufacturing facility experience required
• Experience analyzing operational energy data, including electricity, natural gas, water, or other plant utilities
• Proven ability to identify and complete energy‑efficiency or energy‑reduction projects
• Experience with manufacturing and plant automation preferred
• Automotive manufacturing experience preferred
• Experience with industrial equipment and systems such as compressors, chillers, MUAs, flow meters, and commercial/industrial HVAC preferred
• Knowledge of electrical systems and ability to interpret schematics and drawings preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, and presentation skills
