Job summary

JAPANMART in Arcadia, CA is seeking a friendly Sushi/Kitchen Team Lead to support daily operations for our cooked foods and sushi section. You will assist with food prep, customer service, and maintaining a clean, efficient workspace in a fast-paced store.

The role requires 2+ years of supervisory experience in food and beverage or retail, sushi prep experience, and English fluency. Bilingual English/Japanese is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of supervisory experience in food and beverage operations and/or retail store environments.
• Sushi preparation experience required.
• Bilingual English/Japanese preferred but not required.
• Fluent in English; ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced setting.
• Food Handler Certification or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with sushi preparation and food assembly under JAPANMART quality standards.
• Follow instructions and guidance provided by the Executive Chef.
• Analyze and work on Profit & Loss (P&L) reports.
• Prepare ingredients with proper portion control and presentation.
• Prepare all cooked food items and ensure consistency, quality, and timely service.
• Monitor cooking times, food quality, and adherence to brand standards.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, temperature, storage, cross-contamination rules, and health department requirements.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and properly.
• Assist with packaging, labeling, restocking, and inventory checks.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and storage spaces.
• Open and close kitchen procedures; support daily operations.
• Communicate effectively during busy periods and with JAPANMART team members.
