Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a Surveyor Technician in Bayard, NM to perform detailed field surveys at the site under general supervision. You will assist with field surveys in a mining environment and contribute to buried utility surveys and as-builts.

Preferred candidates may have a High School diploma or GED and prior surveying experience. The role requires a valid driver’s license and offers comprehensive benefits within a major mining operation.

Tyrone is an open‑pit copper mining complex located in Grant County, New Mexico – just 10 miles south of the historic mining community of Silver City. The copper processing facilities currently consist of a solvent extraction/electrowinning operation with an annual maximum capacity of approximately 100 million pounds of copper.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Six (6) months of experience in mining, construction or a related field
• A valid driver's license is required for this job

Preferred

• High School diploma or GED
• Previous surveying experience
• Ability to learn and operate computer programs such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing (keyboard dexterity)

• Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
• Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
• A valid driver's license is required for this job
• Work is in an outdoor, mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
• The work requires the ability to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions frequently during the course of the workday
• Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel‑toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $21.00 - $27.00hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job‑related factors.
