Job summary

Primoris Services Corporation is seeking a Surveyor Party Chief to lead a field survey crew, directing data collection for construction and infrastructure projects with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.

You will operate total stations, GPS, levels, and data collectors, interpret plans, and perform boundary and topographic surveys while mentoring junior crew members and ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive land surveying experience.
• At least 2 years in a Party Chief or lead surveyor role.
• Proficiency with modern surveying equipment and error-checking methods.
• Ability to read engineering plans, plats, and descriptions.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct the survey crew, assign tasks, and ensure safety compliance.
• Operate and maintain total stations, GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors.
• Perform boundary, topographic, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
• Interpret engineering plans and legal descriptions.
• Collect, process, and verify survey data with accuracy.
• Maintain field notes, sketches, and documentation.
• Communicate with project managers, engineers, clients, and stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot field issues and ensure project compliance.
• Train and mentor junior crew members.
• Care for company vehicles and survey equipment.

Job Overview

Job Summary The Surveyor Party Chief at Primoris Services Corporation will lead a survey crew in the field, responsible for the accurate and efficient collection of survey data for various construction and infrastructure projects. This role requires strong leadership, technical proficiency, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Job Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct the work of a survey crew, including assigning tasks and ensuring adherence to project specifications and safety protocols.
• Operate and maintain a variety of surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors.
• Perform boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction staking, as-built surveys, and other types of land surveys.
• Interpret and understand engineering plans, plats, and legal descriptions.
• Collect, process, and verify survey data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and other documentation.
• Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot and resolve field-related issues.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Train and mentor junior survey crew members.
• Responsible for the care and maintenance of company vehicles and equipment.

Job Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or certification in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in land surveying, with at least 2 years in a Party Chief or lead surveyor role.
• Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting modern surveying equipment (e.g., Trimble, Leica, Topcon).
• Strong understanding of survey principles, techniques, and calculations.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and legal descriptions.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with surveying.
• Knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) for data processing and review is a plus.
• OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification preferred.
