Actalent is seeking a Survey Technician to support transportation, municipal, and land development projects across Southeast Michigan, with field and office duties. The role includes boundary/topographic staking, data collection with GPS/GNSS, drones, and mapping, plus coordination with engineers and contractors.

• 2+ years of survey, construction, or related field experience.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans.
• Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Familiarity with survey equipment and field procedures.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license.

Survey Technician

Position Overview

We're looking for a Survey Technician to support a variety of transportation, municipal, and land development projects throughout Southeast Michigan. This role offers a mix of field and office work, with opportunities to work on roads, parks, commercial developments, MDOT projects, and other infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities

• Perform and support boundary, topographic, and construction staking surveys
• Collect and process field data using modern survey equipment
• Operate GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, levels, drones, and other survey technology
• Review plans, plats, and project documents to prepare for field work
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, utility companies, and project stakeholders
• Assist with survey calculations, reports, mapping, and project documentation
• Support both field operations and office data processing
• Maintain survey equipment and ensure accurate data collection
• Travel throughout Metro Detroit using a company-provided vehicle

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of survey, construction, or related field experience
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans
• Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Familiarity with survey equipment and field procedures
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree or coursework in Surveying, Civil Technology, or a related field
• Experience with Trimble or Leica equipment
• Civil 3D or Bentley software experience
• Drone/UAV experience
• Construction staking or topographic survey experience
• Interest in obtaining a Professional Surveyor license

Work Environment

• Majority of time spent in the field
• Typical schedule is Monday-Friday, averaging 40-50 hours per week
• Occasional overtime depending on project needs

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $38.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
