Job summary

Patriot Surveying, LLC is seeking a licensed Survey Project Manager (PLS) to lead complex surveying projects across civil engineering, land development, and energy sectors, ensuring technical accuracy and regulatory compliance while driving profitability.

The role focuses on business, financial, and personnel management of the Survey Division, with final legal certification by your PLS license and supervision of field teams, QA/QC, and client relations.

Qualifications

• Active licensure as South Carolina PLS; multi-state licensure preferred.
• Minimum 5 years in land surveying/geomatics and at least 5 years as licensed PLS and Project Manager.
• Experience with ALTA surveys, construction staking, and land development civil engineering.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D; knowledge of MicroStation, Revit, and ArcGIS is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and clean MVR; ability to pass drug screen and background check.

About the Role & Company

We are seeking a licensed and experienced Survey Project Manager with active licensure as a South Carolina Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) strongly preferred, to lead complex surveying projects while ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and project profitability. In this senior leadership role, you will focus on the business, financial, and personnel management of the Survey Division while utilizing your Professional Land Surveyor license for final legal certification and technical oversight. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining the highest standards of surveying practice and driving project execution across civil engineering, linear energy, and land development sectors.

Travel Expectations

While this is an office-based leadership position, candidates must be able to work on Continental United States (CONUS) infrastructure projects and be flexible for occasional travel to visit project sites, attend client consultations, or perform quality assurance inspections.

Essential Responsibilities (Leadership & Certification)

As a Survey Project Manager (PLS), you will lead the comprehensive management of survey projects, including proposal development, project scheduling, and controlling overall profitability. You will monitor and process financial information, perform monthly pre-bill reconciliations, and manage accounts receivable. Utilizing your PLS license, you will review, stamp, and certify final survey plans, maps, and regulatory documents, taking official legal responsibility for technical accuracy and compliance with state and county standards.

Your operational duties include providing advanced technical direction to Survey Crew Chiefs and Data Technicians, as well as performing rigorous Quality Control (QC) and validation of all field data, GPS collections, and 3D scanning deliverables. You will actively drive business development by cultivating strong client relationships and identifying new project opportunities. Additionally, you will recruit, hire, mentor, and retain top technical talent, coordinate with state and local municipalities for permits, support deed research and plotting, and ensure strict compliance with company safety standards across all office and site environments.

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates must hold a current, active licensure as a South CarolinaProfessional Land Surveyor (PLS), with multi-state licensure being strongly preferred. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred, along with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in land surveying/geomatics and at least five (5) years of experience operating as a licensed PLS and Project Manager. Candidates must bring proven experience with ALTA surveys, construction staking, and civil engineering principles related to land development. High proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required, while experience with MicroStation, Revit, or ArcGIS is a plus. Candidates must also demonstrate strong proficiency with modern survey hardware, including Trimble systems and 3D laser scanners.

A valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are mandatory, as well as the ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and standard 7-year background check. Candidates must possess the ability to work on CONUS-based projects and travel as needed for business operations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This position involves frequent sitting for extended periods while focused on computer-based administration, financial tracking, and CAD review work. Physical demands include occasional standing, walking, and navigating rough or uneven terrain during site visits and field verifications, as well as the ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Work is performed primarily indoors in a professional office setting, with occasional travel for client meetings, site inspections, and regulatory sessions.
