Job summary

Astra Surveying is seeking a dynamic Project Survey Manager to lead the survey department and staff across Jacksonville, Tampa and surrounding areas. The role focuses on managing projects from inception to completion, coordinating with clients, and ensuring quality survey data and deliverables.

The candidate will oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys and subdivision work, supervise technicians, and drive business development for the surveying team.

Astra Surveying is a rapidly growing full service surveying company working throughout Florida specializing mostly in construction. We are seeking a dynamic team member for a Project Survey Manager position in Jacksonville or Tampa and surrounding areas. This position includes managing the survey department and staff, leading projects as a Survey Project Manager, business development activities and growth of the survey team.

Job Description includes, but not limited to:

• Manage, lead and support survey and CAD department staff
• Schedule survey crews and coordinate job progress
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients, reviewing agencies, contractors, etc. for multiple projects at a time
• Work closely with survey crew members and office staff to draft survey data and/or review drawings produced by others
• Effectively communicate with internal staff to gather all information needed for the drafting of survey related data
• Oversee completion of survey projects for boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys, subdivisions, partitions, and property descriptions
• Provide leadership, training and oversight of survey technicians and field personnel
• Communicate with management, clients and assigned survey field crews, in a positive manner, to maximize efforts related scope and budget
• Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey and construction sites
• Assist in establishing and developing criteria for survey methods and procedures, equipment maintenance, etc. as well as specifications of surveying equipment, Data Collection and CAD tools to be used in drafting and modeling
• Oversee land surveys with emphasis on quality and proper survey methodology
• Identify controls for property lines and make the appropriate decisions regarding how to proceed with the survey
• Interpret record documents and accurately represent them in a survey environment
• Oversee and direct surveys in order to establish and map boundaries for properties, topographic studies, construction features, etc. Including Maps, Reports, Legal Descriptions, etc.
• Prepare estimates for various types of surveying services including ALTA Surveys, platting, topographic surveys, construction staking, as-built surveys, data calculation, etc.
• Represent the company in a professional manner at all times

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in right-of-way mapping, control surveys, engineering design surveys, utility mapping, boundary, and topographic surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, platting, condominium documents, construction staking, and as-built surveys
• Knowledge of Robotic total station, GPS, and automatic levels for data collection, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies
• Understand and review construction staking calculations, Plats, Short Plats and Boundary Line Adjustments, Topographic mapping, Property boundary calculations, Easement documents, topographic maps from field data
• Able to interpret plans and provide accurate field crew setup for the construction activities
• Reduce field notes and prepare staking exhibits for contractors
• Ability to write new easement legal descriptions and interpret existing easement legal descriptions to draft their location in relation to a property boundary
• Experience preparing a topographic mapping lineout for field crews
• Able to calculate heights, depths, relative positions, 3D Modeling, and other characteristics and aspects of a construction project
• Experience searching legal records, survey records, plans, specifications, land titles, etc. in order to obtain information about property boundaries and other items of interest specific to the tasks to be surveyed
• Ability to perform necessary calculations essential to the practice of surveying
