Survey Party Chief - Smithfield Construction

The Survey Party Chief will serve in the Smithfield Resident’s Office, performing survey work on complex construction projects, supervising survey crews and technicians, making independent decisions, and communicating effectively with co-workers, contractors, and the public.

Key Responsibilities

1. Review contractor survey submittals and verify construction layouts in the field.
2. Read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
3. Work outdoors, potentially in hazardous environments, confined spaces, nights, and weekends. Safety Toe Shoes required.

Qualifications

Applicants must submit an application demonstrating:

• Experience with surveying equipment, instruments, levels, data collectors, and GPS.
• Mathematical skills including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Experience in highway construction stakeouts and conducting independent surveying.
• Computer skills, including office and drafting software.

Education and experience equivalency: An Associate’s degree in Engineering or Survey Technology plus seven years of technician experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. See oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide for details.
