Job summary

Sundt Construction, a 100% employee-owned contractor, seeks a survey/field technician to support daily survey tasks on construction sites in Charleston, SC. You will operate GPS and survey instruments, assist the Party Chief, and maintain project documents.

Ideal candidates have basic plan-reading skills, team work mindset, and pursuing NICET certification with 2 years of survey experience. Safety gear and on-site duties are involved.

Responsible for understanding standard survey practices, daily completion of work, and maintaining survey equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Basic understanding of the plans (blueprint reading).
  • Can operate all survey equipment (G.P.S., total station, level, etc.).
  • Can perform basic survey calculations to help Party Chief.
  • Keeps construction documents up to date.
  • Keeps equipment in proper working order.
  • Keeps truck fully stocked with materials.
  • Responsible for performing construction stakeout and storing stakeout data.
  • Understand and make changes to Revit model.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Ability to communicate and interface with others.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
  • Working on NICET certification and 2 years survey and/or layout experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  • Will interact with people frequently during a shift/work day
  • Will lift, push or pull objects on an occasional basis
  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/work day.
