Job summary

Alta Environmental & Infrastructure is seeking a motivated Surveyor Field Tech to join our Phoenix Survey team. You will support the Crew Chief with land surveying tasks, work outdoors in varying conditions, and ensure accurate field data and documentation.

Responsibilities include staking, topographical, boundary, ALTA surveys, and operation of Trimble GPS/Total Station with field software. Knowledge of plans and strong safety mindset are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; CST or LSIT preferred.
  • Must be able to perform essential duties outdoors in varying weather.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support crew chief in Construction/Utility Staking, Topographical, Boundary, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
  • Operate Trimble GPS, Robotic Total Station, Trimble Field Software, Auto level and Digital Level equipment.
  • Interpret engineering and architectural plans accurately.
  • Maintain survey notes, point descriptions, and calculations; provide field documentation.
  • Upload/download data daily; prepare project packets.
  • Follow directions from crew chief, liaison, and project managers.

Position Overview

Alta E&I is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Surveyor Field Tech to join our Phoenix Survey team. As a Surveyor Field Tech, you will provide essential support to a survey Crew Chief performing land surveying tasks on a survey field crew. This position requires the ability to work outdoors, in sometimes extreme conditions, performing tasks safely and accurately while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities and Expectations:
Field Duties

The ability and knowledge to accurately and efficiently support your crew chief to perform the following tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Construction/Utility Staking
  • Topographical Surveys
  • Boundary Surveys
  • ALTA/NSPS Surveys
  • Proficient operation of Trimble GPS and Robotic Total Station, to include Trimble Field Software.
  • Proficient operation of Auto and Digital Level equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret engineering & architectural plans accurately.
  • Maintain company standards in survey notes, point descriptions, and calculations.
  • Provide field documentation in anticipation of PLS’s and/or office support’s needs.
  • Receive and follow direction from survey crew chief, survey crew liaison, and project managers.
Other Responsibilities
  • Upload and download data daily.
  • Make copies of field notes and return project packets.
  • Understand company’s services and standards to be the best possible first impression for potential clients.
  • Hold existing clients in high regard and be ready to assist in finding solutions.
  • Perform other duties as determined by Crew Chief, Project Manager or Division Manager.
Equipment and Supply Coordination
  • Maintain: survey equipment, vehicles, batteries, and consumables inventory in storage and in a vehicle.

LANGUAGE SKILLS-Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must possess the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS-Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, trigonometry, plane and solid geometry. Also the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY-Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education or Formal Training:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CST or LSIT preferred

If required to work in the field, work is regularly performed for sustained periods outdoors and occasionally in hot, cold, or inclement weather.

Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 40 lbs. Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Carry equipment up and down steep terrain. Walk, stand, crouch, or run on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. May regularly drive a field truck and occasionally operate a rugged off terrain vehicle.

Must possess a current, valid Arizona State driver’s license at time of appointment and maintained always thereafter to operate a vehicle on company business.
