Job summary

Terrane Land Surveying is seeking a Land Surveying Field Manager, Topo to lead a team of field surveyors in completing topographic, ALTA, and related surveys. The role requires directing field activities, coordinating schedules, managing resources, and upholding high standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction.

The ideal candidate has a strong land surveying background, proven leadership, and experience with advanced surveying technologies.

Qualifications

  • Licensure as LSIT or Licensed Land Surveyor in WA with 5+ years surveying experience.
  • Drone licensure required.
  • Experience leading field teams and conducting land surveys (topographic, ALTA, telecom, construction) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor field survey crews, ensuring safety, accuracy and client satisfaction.
  • Schedule daily field work and coordinate with underground locates and sales/field teams.
  • Oversee field data collection, QA/QC, and deliverables in collaboration with project managers.
  • Maintain equipment calibration and enforce regulatory and company safety standards.
  • Communicate project progress to clients and internal teams via Salesforce or similar systems.

Position Overview:

The Land Surveying Field Manager, Topo will oversee and manage a team of field surveyors to ensure the successful completion of topographic, ALTA and other surveys. This individual will be responsible for coordinating and directing field activities, scheduling, managing resources, and maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction. The role requires a strong background in land surveying, excellent leadership skills, and experience with advanced surveying technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of field surveyors, providing direction, mentorship, training and support to ensure efficiency, safety, and high-quality work output.

Field Crew Scheduling:
  • Schedule daily field work for each topographic field tech
  • Schedule underground utility locates consultants and coordinate with sales/field schedule
  • Notify clients via Salesforce
  • Work closely with the Construction team for resource sharing
  • Review and adjust time budgets and schedules for field crew activities, ensuring efficient use of resources and meeting project deadlines
  • Monitor the progress of surveys to ensure that timeframes are realistic and adjust schedules as necessary to accommodate changes or unforeseen delays

Project Coordination: Work closely with the office team, including project managers, survey technicians, and administrative staff, to ensure timely and successful completion of projects. Assist in the preparation of field packets and deliverables as needed.

Technology Emphasis:

Terrane is laser focused on continuous improvement and being at the absolute leading edge in applying surveying technologies for our field and office teams. As such, a significant portion of this role is assessing and integrating these technologies to the furthest extent possible.

Field Surveying:

Execute a number of field jobs per week as needed. As the scheduler, you will choose the projects that make sense for you to execute.

Equipment Management:

Oversee the use, maintenance, and calibration of surveying equipment such as GPS, total stations, and laser scanners.

  • Quality Control: Review field data and ensure it meets company standards and client specifications.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and ensure that all team members follow best practices and regulatory requirements during field operations. Schedule and conduct monthly field safety meetings.
Qualifications:
  • Licensure: LSIT or Licensed Land Surveyor (LS) in the state of Washington with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the surveying industry, preferred.
  • Drone Licensure: Required.
  • Experience:Proven experience in managing field teams, conducting land surveys, and providing leadership in a surveying environment. Experience with topographic, ALTA, telecom, and construction surveying is highly preferred.
Skills:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Leica surveying equipment (GPS, total stations, and laser scanners).
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift up to 50 lbs, and traverse difficult terrain.

Valid Driver’s License:

Must have a clean driving record and be willing to travel to job sites in the Bellevue and surrounding areas.
