Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Surveyor Field Engineer in Cheyenne, WY to support the construction team and Project Lead Surveyor. The role involves using design drawings and field data to layout and verify survey controls, with broad collaboration across Field Engineering and Supervision.

You will participate in safety, quality, and environmental programs, manage survey data, and assist during absences of the Project Lead Surveyor. Strong teamwork and field experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2–5 years of relevant experience or 6–9 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven surveying experience on siteworks.
  • Knowledge of construction survey principles.
  • Experience with supervisory functions in industrial surveying.
  • Safety-conscious with strong teamwork and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Lead Surveyor with oversight of survey operations.
  • Perform duties of Project Lead Surveyor during absence.
  • Support safety, quality, and environmental programs in surveying.

  • Provide survey support to Field Engineering and Field Supervision.
  • Establish and verify the project's survey control network.
  • Verify subcontract survey control points and work.

Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S.The Cheyenne CCGT project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.

Job Summary:

The Surveyor Field Engineerprovides support as required to the construction team reporting directly to the Project Lead Surveyor. They will perform surveying activities relating to the siteworks, liaising with Field Engineering. They will use design drawings, model and specifications to determine associated commodity locations. They will work with Field Engineering to support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed. They will provide technical support to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situations and configurations. #LI-BH1

Major Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Project Lead Surveyor with the oversight of the survey operations and provides technical direction to the direct-hire team
  • Perform the duties of the Project Lead Surveyor during his/her absence
  • Support the survey team's implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs
  • Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities
  • Provide Construction Survey support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision
  • Establish and/or verify and maintain the project's survey control network
  • Perform verifications of subcontract survey control points and work
  • Perform and/or review Survey Control field work and perform accurate network least squares adjustments
  • Perform or oversee the development and management of survey data
  • Perform or oversee the Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Support the administration of the survey work request program
  • Perform and/or check survey computations as required in the performance of duties
  • Support the implementation of project's machine control technology
  • Support the implementation of the UAV (Drones) program
  • Support the implementation of the 3D Laser Scanning operations, including reality capture and processing of scan data
  • Support the creation and implementation of the survey training program
  • Perform and/or supervise the preparation of survey CAD drawings, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations
  • Provide Civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" records
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Prior siteworks surveying experience.
  • Knowledge of construction survey principles.
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to industrial surveying field & office activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to always maintain a safe work ethic and work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors and survey functional management.
  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels and GNSS survey systems.
  • Experience working on multiple work fronts.
  • Work under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Intermediate level use of Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures.
  • Experience as Pilot of UAV (Drones).
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment Machine Control technology.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations.
