Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a Lead Survey/Metrology professional to plan and execute survey and meteorology strategy, scan operations, and drone pilot programs on a large power project in the USA. You will supervise survey activities, coordinate with field teams, and manage subcontracted crews to ensure data quality and adherence to safety and environmental programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program and strong safety mindset.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards and successful project completion with minimal rework.
  • Experience in heavy construction surveying field and office activities.
  • Proficiency with survey CAD software and data processing.

Project Overview

The project is a 1.3 GW simple-cycle power generation facility located in Millersport, Ohio, being constructed adjacent to a hyperscale data center campus. The facility includes multiple power generation technologies consisting of Solar Titan 130 gas turbines, Siemens SGT800 gas turbines, reciprocating engines, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, and associated balance of plant infrastructure.

The scope includes major civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, underground utility, control systems, and commissioning works required to support phased energization and turnover of the facility. Construction will be executed through a combination of direct hire and subcontracted labor supported by modularization, pre-assembly, offsite warehousing, and advanced work packaging methodologies.

Job Summary

In this role, you will lead a team to plan and execute survey and meteorology strategy, survey scanning, and drone pilot programs. You will supervise survey activities, subcontractors, field verification of materials, and daily data downloading and processing. Your leadership will ensure successful implementation of survey work with a project’s safety, quality, and environmental programs.

Major Responsibilities
  • Oversees the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
  • Oversees the project’s survey control network.
  • Provides oversight of survey works by direct hire surveyors in a given area or areas, coordinates all Survey activities, and manages Survey Subcontract and resources if applicable.
  • Manages sub-contracted survey crews, including verification of survey crews’ control points and work.
  • Provides expertise and technical support as related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situations and configurations.
  • Produces survey’s scanning and metrology strategy and procedure document, which details the requirements for equipment, content, competence requirements and assessments, and accuracy, checking, validation, acceptance, and archiving.
  • Assists the Corporate Survey Manager with competency evaluations and assignments of qualified scanning and metrology survey personnel.
  • Directs and/or performs metrology field measurements utilizing Laser Tracker instrument and Spatial Analyzer software.
  • Provides survey support to senior management.
  • Produces the survey strategy and procedure document, which details the requirements for survey equipment, survey content, competence requirements and assessments, and survey accuracy, checking, validation, acceptance, and archiving.
  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases of survey equipment as required.
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
  • Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Required bachelor's degree(or equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge And Skills
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” safety program. Must have a strong drive toward Safety, both on and off the job, a commitment to seeing everyone go home each day as well and healthy as they came to work that day
  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards. Must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework
  • Knowledge of construction survey principles
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy construction/industrial surveying field & office activities
  • Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures
  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors, and survey functional management
  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Survey CAD software, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations
