Job summary

The ideal candidate has experience in survey data processing, topographic data, QA/QC, and strong organizational and communication skills; a high school diploma or GED is required, with preferred associate degree.

Position is for in house and can be located at our Houston, Katy or The Woodlands, TX office.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Survey Data Technician

to support the Survey team by managing, processing, reviewing, and preparing field-collected survey data. This position serves as a key link between field crews and project deliverables, helping ensure that survey information is complete, accurate, well organized, and ready for mapping, modeling, design support, and client delivery.

The ideal candidate will have practical experience with survey data processing, topographic data, field documentation, surface modeling, and quality assurance/quality control procedures. Strong organization, technical judgment, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Field Data and Logbook Management
  • Manage, maintain, and track daily field logbooks and associated project records.
  • Receive, organize, and archive daily field files using established project naming and filing standards.
  • Confirm that required field documentation has been submitted and is complete.
  • Coordinate with field crews to resolve missing information, unclear notes, or data discrepancies.
Survey Data Processing
  • Download, import, process, and organize daily topographic survey files.
  • Post-process survey data and prepare files for drafting, mapping, surface development, and deliverables.
  • Review feature coding, descriptions, linework, and collected attributes for consistency.
  • Maintain orderly working files and preserve supporting data in accordance with company standards.
  • Review construction plans and prepare staking calculations for field crews
Quality Assurance / Quality Control
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of field notes for completeness, clarity, and consistency with collected data.
  • Identify potential errors, omissions, outliers, or conflicts in field data and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate needed corrections with field personnel, technicians, and project managers.
  • Follow established quality processes and document significant corrections or assumptions.
Topographic Data and Deliverables
  • Occasionally help create field packets and line out our survey crews for jobs
  • Clean up topographic survey data and linework for mapping and final deliverables.
  • Input and verify utility and drainage invert information.
  • Enter temporary benchmark (TBM) notes, elevations, locations, and descriptions.
  • Prepare finished survey topo data products, including topographic deliverables and surface models, as assigned.
  • Assist with post-construction and as-built data processing when required.
Surface Modeling
  • Create and review terrain and surface models for QA/QC, design support, and project deliverables.
  • Inspect surfaces for gaps, spikes, voids, crossing breaklines, and other anomalies.
  • Compare surface results with field notes, source data, and project requirements.
  • Prepare surface files and supporting information for internal and external project teams.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of land surveying practices, terminology, and field-to-finish workflows.
  • Experience processing survey data, reviewing field notes, or supporting survey drafting and deliverables.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to organize multiple projects, priorities, and daily data submissions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer skills and the ability to learn company software, standards, and procedures.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical coursework in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, GIS, CAD, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of Survey Drafter, Survey Data Technician, CAD, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of basic civil engineering concepts.
  • Experience supporting topographic, transportation, utility, municipal, land development, or as-built surveys.
