DRMP's Survey Department in Troutman, North Carolina is hiring an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field operations and manage a survey crew. The role involves overseeing construction, topo, boundary, and NCDOT projects, with emphasis on accuracy, safety, and timely delivery of field data.

The position requires hands-on work with robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and data collectors, plus strong leadership and communication to ensure project success and field readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong written communication and ability to manage field crew.
• Basic math skills and calculator use.
• Ability to carry and lift equipment as needed.
• Experience with survey tools and setting up for different situations.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead the field effort for surveying tasks including construction, topo, boundary, ROW, control, route/roadway, and NCDOT surveys.
• Represent the company in the field and ensure crew and equipment are ready for the next assignment.
• Ensure work meets company standards and present results clearly.
• Assign and monitor work, provide input for evaluating field crew members.
• Instruct and train crew in survey methods, equipment use, and safety procedures.
• Gather field data via conventional and GPS methods.
• Set up and operate robotic surveying equipment to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
• Prepare field notes and drawings.
• Perform field surveying for roadways, bridges, and flood control projects, including stakes and control.

Position Details

Department: Survey/Geomatics
Location: Troutman, NC
Compensation: $29.00 - $35.00 / hour

Responsibilities

• Lead the field effort for various surveying tasks including construction, topographic, boundary, right-of-way, control, route/roadway, and NCDOT survey projects.
• Represent the company in the field and ensure the crew and equipment are ready for the next assignment.
• Ensure that work is performed to company standards and that results are presented in a clear and concise format.
• Assign and monitor work, provide input for evaluation of field survey crew members.
• Instruct and train crew members in survey methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.
• Gather field survey data through conventional and GPS methods.
• Set up, adjust, and operate robotic surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
• Prepare field notes and drawings.
• Perform field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and/or specialized training from a vocational or technical school.
• Good written communication and handwriting skills with the ability to take all types of notes in the required manner, manage and organize field crew.
• Ability to calculate basic math (as required for the work) and utilize calculators and other computational devices.
• Ability to carry and lift equipment as needed on the project.
• Ability to cut and/or clear brush while establishing survey lines (machete use).
• Knowledge of equipment and ability to set up for various types for different work situations.
• Ability to hold and proficiently use all measuring devices.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving history.
• Ability to travel.
