D.H. Griffin Infrastructure in Greensboro, NC is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to lead field operations on civil construction projects, including layout, stakeout, and data collection with Trimble equipment.

You will collaborate with project managers in Greensboro and Raleigh, travel regionally across NC/SC/VA, and contribute to drone surveys, QA/QC, and safety programs while mentoring junior crew.

Qualifications

• 2+ years as instrument operator or 1+ year as survey crew chief on construction sites.
• Experience with site layout for curb, utilities, grading, and site work.
• Proficient with Trimble equipment and Trimble Access.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction layout and stakeout for site civil work.
• Conduct as-built verification for recorded improvements.
• Collect field data using Trimble equipment and GNSS receivers.
• Perform drone-based photogrammetry surveys for quantity tracking and site documentation.
• Provide project support and site calibrations as needed.

The Survey team is integral to the company's success, providing advanced technology support for construction operations through GPS machine control, drone surveys, and quality control. As a Survey Crew Chief, you will join an established team working primarily between Greensboro and Wilson, with opportunities to support projects throughout NC, SC, and VA. Responsibilities

• Perform construction layout and stakeout for site civil work, including grading, curb and gutter, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, retaining walls, and related utilities.
• Conduct as-built verification to ensure accurate recording of installed improvements.
• Collect field data using Trimble robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and digital levels.
• Perform drone-based photogrammetry surveys for quantity tracking and site documentation.
• Carry out site calibrations and provide project support services as needed.
• Train construction crews in the proper use of survey equipment and data collectors.
• Adhere to company Safety Program and Quality Management Plan procedures on every project.
• Collaborate with experienced crew chiefs and report to Survey Project Managers in Greensboro and Raleigh.
• Travel within the regional territory as required, with some overnight stays (under 30%).

Qualifications

• 2 or more years of experience as an instrument operator on construction projects, or 1 or more years of experience as a survey crew chief.
• Hands-on experience with construction layout for curb, utilities, grading, and site work.
• Proficiency with Trimble equipment, including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and Trimble Access.
• Ability to work effectively on active construction sites and communicate with superintendents and foremen.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in fieldwork.
• Team-oriented with the ability to take direction and coordinate with other crew chiefs and project managers.
• Eagerness to learn and grow within the survey profession.
• Valid state driver's license.
• Ability to obtain an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (drone operator license).
• Willingness to travel regionally with some overnight stays (per diem provided).
