Job summary

Crafton Tull & Associates Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician to support land survey practices in a hybrid role combining office tasks with fieldwork.

You will prepare maps, plats, ALTA surveys, and legal descriptions from field data, while following drafting standards and coordinating with field crews. Ideal candidates hold an Associate's degree or equivalent and 2–5 years of related experience, with a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
  • Two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data.
  • Maps and drawings to include: Plats, ALTA surveys, Topographic Maps, As‑Builts, Vicinity Maps, some Engineering Plans
  • Prepare legal descriptions and exhibit drawings
  • Deed plotting
  • Preparation of TINs, surface models, and contours from field data
  • Routinely perform coordinate geometry calculations
  • Prepare pre-calculations for field crews to take to the field for stake-out
  • Incorporate conventional optical data, static GPS data, and RTK GPS data into projects
  • Adhere to drafting standards
  • Fieldwork assignments
  • Other duties as assigned

TECHNICIAN SUMMARY: Assists in application of principles, methods, and techniques of land survey technology. Hybrid role, both office and field work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following

  • Prepare maps and drawings from survey field data
  • Maps and drawings to include: Plats, ALTA surveys, Topographic Maps, As‑Builts, Vicinity Maps, some Engineering Plans
  • Prepare legal descriptions and exhibit drawings
  • Deed plotting
  • Preparation of TINs, surface models, and contours from field data
  • Reduce field notes and check reductions and calculations made by others
  • Routinely perform typical coordinate geometry calculations such as intersections, curves, inverses, area calculations, etc.
  • Prepare pre‑calculations for field crews to take to the field for stake‑out
  • Incorporate conventional optical data, static GPS data, and RTK GPS data into projects
  • Adhere to drafting standards
  • Fieldwork assignments
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and averages.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a valid driver license.
